Backgammon Premium – Game Tutorial
Backgammon Premium brings the classic board game to a modern online environment, combining strategy, luck, and competitive play. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, the goal is simple: move all your checkers around the board and bear them off before your opponent does.
- Game Setup
- Players: 2
- Board: 24 triangles (points)
- Checkers: 15 per player
- Dice: 2 standard dice
Each player starts with their checkers arranged in a standard backgammon formation on opposite sides of the board.
- Objective
The objective is to:
- Move all your checkers into your home board
- Then bear them off (remove them from the board)
The first player to remove all their checkers wins the game.
- Basic Gameplay
- Players take turns rolling two dice
- Each die represents a separate move
- You can move one checker twice or two different checkers
Movement Rules:
- Move checkers forward only
- You can land on:
- Empty points
- Points occupied by your own checkers
- Points with one opponent checker (this is called a hit)
- Hitting & Entering
If you land on a point with a single opponent checker:
- That checker is hit and placed on the bar
Before making any other moves:
- The opponent must re-enter their checker from the bar into the board
- Bearing Off
Once all your checkers are in your home board:
- You can begin bearing off
- Roll the dice and remove checkers based on the numbers
- The exact number is required, unless no higher checkers remain
- The Doubling Cube
The doubling cube adds an important strategic element to the game.
🔲 What is the Doubling Cube?
It is a special cube marked with values (2, 4, 8, 16, etc.) used to increase the stakes of the game.
🔁 How It Works
- At any point before rolling, a player can offer a double
- The opponent has two options:
- ✅ Accept → The game continues with doubled stakes
- ❌ Decline → The opponent forfeits the game at the current value
📈 Cube Values
- The game starts at 1 point
- First double → 2 points
- Next double → 4 points
- Then → 8, 16, etc.
Each time the cube is accepted:
- Control of the cube passes to the accepting player
🧠 Strategy Tips for the Doubling Cube
- Offer a double when:
- You have a strong positional advantage
- Your opponent is likely to lose
- Accept a double when:
- You still have a reasonable chance to win
- Decline when:
- Your position is clearly losing
The doubling cube introduces risk vs reward decisions, making the game more strategic and exciting.
- Scoring
- A normal win = 1 point (or current cube value)
- A Gammon (opponent has not borne off any checkers) = 2× points
- Winning the Game
The match continues until a player reaches the target score or wins based on the agreed rules.
